Oh boy.. It's almost that time again:back to school! Every year the summer seems to go by faster and faster. But what exactly does this have to do with insurance you ask? Here are 4 "insurance" things to keep in mind as the school year begins: 1. Good grades: If you have a teenage driver in the house, our carriers offer "good student" discounts. With a copy of a grade report showing a B+ average or better, your "good student" is eligable for a discount! This discount applies to students who have less than 6 years of driving experience. 2. Driver Training and Advanced Driver Training: There is a significant discount applied if your child takes drivers ed classes and of course, we recommend taking drivers ed regardless of the savings. Our carriers also offer In Control Driver Training- an advanced course that awards you an additional discount when completed. Please take a look at the website and contact us for more information.
3. Moving to a Dorm: Is your college student living in a dorm this semester? Your MA Homeowners Insurance may cover their belongings without additional coverage being needed up to a specified limit. This is called Property Off Premises coverage. Remember, any claim would be subject to your deductible. Let us review your policy to check for specific amounts of coverage included. 4. Moving to an Apartment: Let's say your college student has graduated from the dorms and is moving in to an apartment. In this case, your MA Homeowners Insurance policy will NOT cover their belongings and your student will need a Renters Insurance policy. MA Renters Insurance is very affordable and provides coverage for contents and liability. We work hard to make sure our clients have the right coverages at the right times. The fastest and easiest way to make sure your student is receiving all the discounts they qualify for and getting their belongings covered at college is to schedule a review! Call us at (978) 562-3464 to review your policies and discuss your current situation.
